“The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it.” -1 John 1:5
Wow. Let that sink in a moment. The dark has never extinguished it. We think we’re worthless, a tiny spark in a world full of darkness. We represent the Light, Jesus, as Christians. The world is full of Sin, full of darkness. Our impact on society today couldn’t be that great, or could it? It takes only a little bit of light to cast away the darkness. One opinion, one voice, could change a country. If Jesus is the light, the ever-burning fire, can’t we shine for him?
Think of the stars. If you look up at the sky on a clear night, you’ll probably see some. If you see just one star on a cloudy night it doesn’t seem very big. Compared to the sky it’s tiny. But it’s there. It’s shining. Together with all the other stars it illuminates the night sky. What if one of the stars said, “Oh well, I’m not very bright. No one notices me. I might as well stop shining.” That wouldn’t be a big deal, would it? But what if that star was one of the stars on the big dipper? I think we’d notice. That star would stop shining, the sky wouldn’t be the same. A constellation would be broken. You matter! Never stop shining. A single spark can push back the dark.
Song to Try: Pushing Back the Dark by Josh Wilson
This is a great video stating that we are not only what’s on the outside.
(Has captions in Spanish, couldn’t change that.)
“Don’t be afraid, just believe.”
‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:13
How do we seek God? We wonder about, doing our own thing, but really? Do we honestly wake up trying to know Him more? Maybe we should. I saw a wonderful illustration of that the other day.
Our heart is like a door. (Sounds like the beginning of a strange book.) But that door can only be opened one way. We are the only people that can ever open that door. Jesus stands on the opposite side, knocking. He doesn’t bang on the door, or try to knock it down. He knocks on our heart. In small whispers He touches us. You see, we seek God but never know that He’s there. He’s right there. We don’t have to go to the ends of the earth to find Him. He has already found us. He is at the door. He’s still there. He’s waiting for you. Open the door!
Song to Try: Help me find It by Sidewalk Prophets
I love this this song, because it sends such an encouraging message. The truth is that no matter what you’ve gone through, no matter how many mistakes you’ve made, Jesus is right there to pick you back up. That’s real love. Love that stays there to encourage you through the trials of life. Love that cries when you fall, and helps you back up. We may think that we’ve fallen into a pit to deep to ever climb back out of. But we our Heavenly Father will lift us out again, always. He loves you for who you are, no matter how many past transgressions we may have.
“God doesn’t want something from us. He simply wants us.”
– C.S Lewis
That is so wonderful. Because it’s true!
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
God saved each and every one of us, and that’s it. There’s no catch, or fee, or price later on. All we have to do is accept it.
